Back in the Reading days during Iron Horse Rambles. Some areas where T-1’s can’t get to, Diesels will be added for additional assist. June 22nd seen that day. From Penobscot to Pittston, it’s too dangerous for 2102 to make the 2.2% grade decent for the engine solo. So for safety, RBMN brought 5018 & 5019 to assist the 18 miles downhill to prevent risk of burning brake shoes and with a 20 mph restriction.

After dropping a pretty mean log, I got heads up that Norfolk Southern local H76 was headed west. I grabbed my camera and ran down to the bridge just in time to get it going over the Raritan River in beautiful golden light. I’ve never shot anything out of by bowels that fast in order to get down here in time.
